The border country, is the Southern Upland region that seperates England ( to the south) from the Central Lowlands, an area sixty miles wide that is the main industrial region of the country.
The Highlands are in the north, and are the most mountainous region.



Scotland and its offshore islands are the northernmost part of the United Kingdom, and occupy about 37% of the landmass.

Called Caledonia by the Romans, and battled over for centuries, England and Scotland finally agreed to a permanent union in the "Act of Union" of 1707.

Names like Mary, Queen of Scots, Robert Burns, and Sir Walter Scot spring from its historic past.

Scotland is the home of "Golf," and famous courses like Inverness and St. Andrews come quickly to mind. The inspiring beauty of this land also includes Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine and of course, Loch Ness.

Unmatched, Scotland is a magnet for visitors and a most important part of the United Kingdom.

Climate

Moderated by prevailing southwest winds off the north Atlantic, winters are mild, although the highlands can experience some very cold weather. Summers are cool and overcast days are not uncommon. Rain is evenly spread throughout the year.

The central lowlands, is an area about sixty miles wide, which is where the majority of the industries are located. at the north of this region lie the highlands, and the most mountainous part of the country. in the south lie the southern uplands, an area which is the agricultural heart of the country, and is the border country, between England and Scotland.
